Mallorca land Belgian speedster Kalumba as winter window heats up

Belgian winger Justin Kalumba becomes Mallorca's first January signing after completing his medical, with the club potentially eyeing more attacking reinforcements.

Mallorca have wasted no time strengthening their squad this January, with Belgian winger Justin Kalumba touching down on the Balearic island to become Jagoba Arrasate’s first winter signing.

Deal accelerated

The tricky wide man had actually been tied up for a summer move according to reports, but Mallorca decided to get their man early rather than waiting for the end of the season. Bit of a result for the Bermellones, that.

Kalumba arrived on the island this afternoon and promptly completed his medical examination without any hiccups. The Belgian youngster adds some much-needed pace and creativity to Mallorca’s attacking options as they look to climb the table in the second half of the season.

More to come?

Sources at Son Moix suggest the islanders aren’t done yet in the transfer market. The club’s brass are still working on at least one more addition - possibly even two - with Moroccan talent Ilias Akomach seemingly top of their shopping list.

Any move for Akomach will likely have to wait until after Sunday, as the midfielder is set to represent Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations final. Talk about perfect timing if they pull that one off!

Offensive reinforcements

Mallorca’s attacking department has looked a bit Adam and Eve (believe) at times this season, so bringing in Kalumba represents a smart bit of business. The Belgian becomes the first new face through the door this January, but if the club’s plans come to fruition, he won’t be the last.

Arrasate will be chuffed to bits with this early business as he looks to put his stamp on the squad. Let’s see if Kalumba can hit the ground running and make an immediate impact for the islanders.
