Suazo returns to training as Sow and Alexis hit the gym at Sevilla
Sevilla's injury woes continue as they prepare for Monday's trip to Elche, with Marcao back in training but suspended and several key players still missing.
Sevilla’s injury crisis shows no signs of letting up as Matías Almeyda’s men prepare for Monday night’s tricky away fixture at Elche’s Martínez Valero stadium.
Training updates
The Nervionenses were back on the training pitch this morning after a day off, with a mixed bag of news for the gaffer to contend with:
- Suazo has continued his integration with the squad, participating in another full session
- Brazilian defender Marcao has rejoined group training – though he’ll be watching from the stands on Monday due to suspension
- Both Djibril Sow and Alexis Sánchez were absent from the main session, instead completing individual work in the gym
- Alexis picked up a pelvis contusion before the Celta match, which limited him to a 30-minute cameo off the bench
Mounting absences
Almeyda’s selection headaches continue with several confirmed absentees:
- Vargas, Azpilicueta and Alfon are all definitely out of contention
- Akor Adams and Ejuke will be playing in the Africa Cup of Nations third-place playoff on Saturday, making their availability for Monday night’s fixture touch and go
Sow’s potential absence would be particularly problematic, as the Swiss midfielder has been a mainstay in Almeyda’s plans this season. The boss will be hoping his gym session is merely precautionary rather than anything more serious.
With the second half of the league campaign kicking off after some disappointing recent results, Sevilla desperately need to start picking up points to avoid getting caught in a proper dog’s dinner down the bottom half of the table.
