Getafe snap up Uruguayan defender Boselli from River Plate

The Madrid club have secured their second January signing, bringing in versatile centre-back Sebastián Boselli from River Plate for €1.5 million for 50% of his rights.

Getafe continue their January recruitment drive with the signing of Uruguayan defender Sebastián Boselli from River Plate, strengthening José Bordalás’ defensive options.

Deal Details

The Madrid-based outfit have splashed around €1.5 million for 50% of Boselli’s rights, making him the second January arrival at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. The Uruguayan has already joined up with his new teammates, participating in training today as he begins his Spanish adventure.

Defensive Reinforcement

Boselli’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Getafe, who’ve been short at the back since Omar Alderete’s departure late in the previous transfer window. The new signing will compete for playing time with established centre-backs Domingos Duarte and Djené Dakonam, while Abdel Abqar continues his recovery from injury.

With this addition, gaffer Bordalás now has four proper centre-halves at his disposal - something he’s been crying out for since the season kicked off.

Versatility Key

What makes Boselli particularly valuable to Getafe is his versatility. While primarily a central defender, the Uruguayan can also slot in at full-back when needed - the sort of flexibility that Bordalás absolutely loves in his players.

This adaptability gives the manager additional tactical options both when planning for matches and making in-game adjustments. For a club of Getafe’s size, having players who can cover multiple positions is worth its weight in gold.

Looking Ahead

The signing represents smart business for Los Azulones, bringing in a promising South American defender with the potential to develop significantly in La Liga. With Getafe looking to secure their top-flight status and possibly push for a European spot, reinforcing the defensive unit was clearly a priority.

Boselli will be hoping to make an immediate impact and establish himself in Spanish football, following the well-trodden path of Uruguayan defenders who have thrived in La Liga over the years.
