Glasner to leave Crystal Palace as summer exit confirmed
Austrian manager Oliver Glasner announces he won't renew his Crystal Palace contract, with José Bordalás potentially in the frame as his replacement.
Crystal Palace’s Austrian gaffer Oliver Glasner has confirmed he’ll be leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season, dropping the bombshell during Friday’s press conference.
The announcement
Glasner revealed he’d already informed Palace owner Steve Parish of his decision during an October dinner meeting, but they’d kept it hush-hush until now. The Austrian finally broke the news to his players today, bringing clarity to his future after a relatively successful stint in South London.
“I had a meeting with Steve during the international break. We went for dinner, had a long conversation and I told him I wouldn’t sign a new contract here,” Glasner explained.
Glasner’s Palace legacy
The Austrian arrived at Palace in 2024 following spells in his homeland and Germany, where he managed both Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. His impact at Palace has been nothing short of transformative:
- Led the Eagles to their first-ever major trophy, winning the FA Cup against Manchester City at Wembley
- Qualified the club for European football for the first time in their history
- Originally earned Europa League qualification but had to settle for Conference League due to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules (one Palace owner had stakes in Lyon)
Current season and future prospects
This campaign has been less spectacular but still solid. Palace currently sit 13th in the Premier League with a comfortable 14-point cushion above the drop zone. They’ve also progressed in the Conference League, though they’ve already been knocked out of both domestic cup competitions.
Bordalás in the frame?
Interestingly, Spanish media had already linked Getafe manager José Bordalás with the Palace job. According to reports from Cadena SER and confirmed by MARCA, Palace have identified Bordalás, whose contract expires in June, as a potential replacement should Glasner depart.
However, as of a few weeks ago, no formal contact had been made between the London club and either Bordalás or his representatives. With Glasner’s departure now confirmed, expect this link to strengthen in the coming months.
