Granada snap up Petit on loan to solve goalscoring woes

The Andalusian club secure Uruguayan striker Gonzalo Petit from Real Betis after his stint at Mirandés, adding much-needed firepower to Pacheta's attacking options.

Granada CF have moved swiftly in the January transfer window to address their scoring troubles, bringing in young Uruguayan striker Gonzalo Petit on loan until the end of the season.

Loan deal solves three-way puzzle

The 19-year-old arrives at Los Cármenes after parent club Real Betis terminated his loan at Mirandés, creating what the Spanish press are calling a “perfect solution” for all parties involved. Betis weren’t chuffed with Petit’s playing time at Mirandés, and Granada were desperate for someone to put the ball in the onion bag.

Granada will reportedly cover the approximately €200,000 fee that Betis must pay to Mirandés for breaking the original loan agreement. Bit of a result for the Verdiblancos, that.

What Petit brings to Granada

Pacheta’s squad has been crying out for a proper goalscorer since the season kicked off, and in Petit they’re getting:

  • A natural number 9 with predatory instincts
  • Four goals and one assist during his time at Mirandés
  • A player who allows tactical flexibility - potentially freeing Pascual to drop deeper and Arnáiz to move to his preferred wide position

As they say in Uruguay (and absolutely nowhere in London), he’s one of those players with “goals in his blood” - exactly what the doctor ordered for Granada’s attacking woes.

Ready for immediate impact

Despite only having a couple of training sessions under his belt with his new teammates, Petit could make his debut as soon as Monday against Eibar in what’s being described as a vital match for the Andalusian side.

More reinforcements on the way?

Interestingly, Álvaro Lemos has also been training with Granada after ending his contract with Oviedo. The Galician full-back is on trial with the rojiblancos, looking to prove he’s fully recovered from a serious knee injury and could become Granada’s second January signing in the coming days if all goes to plan.
