Huesca bolster attacking options with Jordi Escobar signing
SD Huesca continue their January reinforcement strategy with the acquisition of 23-year-old striker Jordi Escobar, who joins on a free transfer from Portuguese side AVS on a deal until 2028.
Struggling SD Huesca aren’t hanging about this January window as they look to pull themselves clear of the Segunda División relegation scrap, adding another attacking option to their ranks.
Barcelona academy product arrives
After already securing winger Efe Aghama, the Aragonese outfit have now snapped up 23-year-old forward Jordi Escobar on a permanent deal that runs until 2028. The striker arrives on a free transfer after leaving Portuguese side AVS.
Huesca have described their new addition as a “reference point in attack, with great stature and goalscoring ability” - music to the ears of supporters whose team has been struggling to find the back of the onion bag this season.
Impressive pedigree
Escobar’s CV reads like a proper who’s who of Spanish football development:
- Started in Barcelona’s youth setup
- Developed at Valencia, where he trained with the first team at just 16
- Represented Spain at U16 and U18 levels, scoring 7 goals in 29 appearances
- Spells at Almería and the B teams of Barcelona (who came back in for him), Betis and Celta
The forward established himself in Primera RFEF (Spain’s third tier) with consecutive double-digit goal seasons before making the move to Portugal’s top flight.
More business expected
The Huesca brass ain’t done yet, with reports suggesting they’re after two or three more additions before the transfer window slams shut. Meanwhile, players deemed surplus to requirements like Gustavo Albarracín and Hugo Pérez are expected to be shipped out.
It’s all hands on deck at El Alcoraz as the club looks to avoid the drop to the third tier. With Escobar now in the building, Huesca fans will be hoping their new target man can hit the ground running and help fire them to safety. The proof will be in the pudding, as they say.
