Mbappé back in Madrid squad for Levante clash as knee troubles persist

Kylian Mbappé returns to Real Madrid's squad list after knee issues, though his participation remains uncertain as medical staff exercise caution.

Madrid’s medical team remains on tenterhooks over Mbappé’s troublesome left knee, but there’s finally a glimmer of hope for Los Blancos supporters.

Back in the squad

After missing the Albacete trip due to his dodgy knee, Kylian Mbappé has been named in Real Madrid’s squad to face Levante tomorrow. The news came straight from the horse’s mouth as Álvaro Arbeloa confirmed during his press conference: “He’s better and will be in the squad.”

But don’t get your hopes up too quickly, Madridistas. Being named in the squad doesn’t guarantee the Frenchman will see any action against Levante. The club’s medical services, now headed by Croatian doctor Niko Mihic, are treading carefully with their star man’s knee, which remains in a precarious state.

Ongoing troubles

Mbappé’s knee problems have been giving the Madrid brass a right headache for over a month now. The issue dates back to December 7th when Madrid faced Celta Vigo, and since then:

  • He’s been forced to miss high-voltage matches including those against Manchester City and city rivals Atlético
  • His appearance in the Supercopa final against Barcelona was essentially a non-event
  • The French forward has been performing well below his usual brilliant standards

Delicate balancing act

The situation has put Madrid in a proper pickle. On one hand, they’re desperate to have their number 10 back at full tilt, especially with the team facing what Arbeloa described as a “límite” situation where they need all hands on deck.

On the other hand, rushing Mbappé back could risk aggravating the injury further. It’s a classic case of short-term pain versus long-term gain, and Madrid’s medical staff aren’t taking any chances with their crown jewels.

Whether we’ll see Mbappé grace the Bernabéu turf tomorrow remains to be seen, but his inclusion in the squad list is at least a step in the right direction for a Madrid side desperate for some good news on the injury front.
