Rubi breaks silence on Pulido saga: 'No deadline, hoping for Huesca agreement'

Almería manager opens up about transfer negotiations for Jorge Pulido, confirms no Plan B exists, and addresses potential January window activity.

Almería boss Rubi has finally opened up about the ongoing Jorge Pulido transfer saga after previously dodging questions on the matter, making it clear the club remains patient in their pursuit of the Huesca defender.

Pulido or bust

In a refreshing change of tack from last week’s presser before the Anduva match, Rubi was surprisingly forthcoming when quizzed about Pulido. The gaffer made no bones about the fact there’s no contingency plan if they can’t secure their man this January.

“No,” Rubi stated firmly when asked about alternative targets. “Beyond Pulido, in principle, no. Today we’re focused on seeing if he can come now, and if not, obviously we have to respect that completely.”

The Catalan manager confirmed they’re putting all their eggs in one basket for now: “We’re not exploring other situations. That could change because there’s plenty of time, but at the moment we’re not pursuing anything else. We’re waiting to see what happens with Jorge.”

Transfer window still active

With Morci and Miguel de la Fuente already through the door, Rubi was asked if the club’s business was concluded beyond the potential Pulido deal:

  • The manager insisted the window “cannot be considered closed” as “situations can arise at any moment”
  • He described Almería as “a club 100% open to improving any position”
  • Rubi acknowledged some players might seek moves elsewhere for more playing time

No deadline pressure

With the transfer window remaining open until February 2nd, Rubi, who’s acting as spokesperson on this matter, confirmed there’s no rush to conclude the Pulido negotiations.

“We’re not setting a deadline. These processes are very slow,” he explained. “We’ll wait to see if we can reach an agreement with Huesca where they don’t feel disadvantaged by losing a player like him, provided they have the possibility to bring in someone else.”

The manager concluded with a pragmatic note: “If it can’t happen, we’ll move forward with what we have, which is also good.”
