Las Palmas splashing the cash as Luis García gets transfer wish list
The Canary Islanders have strengthened their promotion push with four attacking signings in the January window, while moving on players surplus to requirements.
Las Palmas mean business this winter as they’ve handed manager Luis García the attacking reinforcements needed to mount a serious promotion challenge.
Winter window masterclass
The Canary Islanders have been proper busy in January, bringing in four new forward options to bolster a side that’s been rock solid at the back but crying out for more bite up top.
Their shopping list has been impressive:
- Benedetti - arrived on a free transfer
- Estanis - loan deal
- Iker Bravo - loan deal
- Japanese attacker Miyashiro - loan deal
The signing of Miyashiro appears to wrap up what’s been a stellar January window for Las Palmas, who are clearly having a right go at returning to the top flight.
Strategy from the top
Club president Miguel Ángel Ramírez hasn’t been shy about their ambitions, explaining the club’s approach on SER Las Palmas: “We’re trying to fine-tune the squad to be more competitive in the second half of the season, which is going to be quite complicated.”
It’s a shrewd bit of business from sporting director Luis Helguera, who’s somehow managed to attract quality players mid-season - no mean feat when you’re shopping in January. The gaffer’s clearly chuffed, with García acknowledging the “tremendous effort” being made to improve the squad.
Clearing the decks
It’s not just about incomings though. Las Palmas have already shown three players the door this month - Mata, Cedeño and Arvelo - none of whom were getting much of a look-in under García.
The exodus isn’t over yet either. Marc Cardona is currently weighing up his options with a view to terminating his contract. And word is he might not be the last to leave before the window slams shut.
With a defence that’s ticking like a Swiss watch and now some additional firepower up top, Las Palmas are putting their money where their north and south is in pursuit of promotion. The second half of the season could be right tasty in the Canaries.
