Mbappé's 30th goal of the season calms Bernabéu nerves against Levante
The French striker continues his remarkable scoring form for Real Madrid, converting a penalty to break the deadlock after a poor first half display from Los Blancos.
Kylian Mbappé once again proved to be the difference-maker as Real Madrid eventually overcame a stubborn Levante side at the Bernabéu.
Second-half saviour
Levante managed to stay in the contest until Mbappé decided enough was enough. After a truly dreadful first half from Los Blancos that had the home crowd getting proper mardy, the team sparked into life after the break with their French superstar leading the charge.
The turning point came when Mbappé burst into the penalty area, drawing a foul from Dela, before calmly slotting home the resulting spot-kick past Ryan to break the deadlock.
What makes his performance even more impressive is that Kylian wasn’t even at the races physically. Having been left out of the Copa del Rey squad, he only rejoined training on Thursday and was working under Arbeloa’s guidance despite not being fully recovered from his knee injury.
Frightening numbers
The penalty against Levante takes Mbappé’s remarkable season tally to:
- 30 goals in just 26 appearances across all competitions
- 19 goals in 19 La Liga matches - averaging a goal per game
- Only missed one league match (against Betis two weeks ago) due to his knee trouble
When you combine his current La Liga haul with last season’s numbers, the stats are absolutely bonkers:
- 50 league goals in total
- 31 last season (earning him the Pichichi trophy and European Golden Boot)
- 19 already this campaign
He’s also tearing up the Champions League, where he currently tops the scoring charts with 9 goals in just five matches, ahead of Osimhen and Haaland who have six each.
Monaco reunion looms
Next up for Mbappé is Tuesday’s special encounter against his boyhood club Monaco - the team where he cut his teeth as a professional and made his Champions League debut.
Based on his performance against Levante, despite not being at 100%, the French outfit will have their work cut out trying to contain their former wonderkid when they visit the Bernabéu.
After initially struggling to break down Levante’s resilient defence, Madrid fans will be breathing a sigh of relief that their star man continues to deliver even when the team’s not firing on all cylinders. As they say in the East End, he’s worth his weight in bread and honey.
