PSG swoop for Barça wonderkid Dro with mammoth 2030 contract

Barcelona's 18-year-old talent Dro is on the verge of leaving for PSG in a €6m deal, leaving Hansi Flick fuming as another La Masia prospect heads for the exit door.

Barcelona’s teenage sensation Dro is on the brink of swapping Catalonia for the French capital, with PSG set to trigger his €6m release clause and tie him down until 2030.

Deal nearly done

The talented Galician midfielder, who just turned 18 last Monday, appears to have played his final minutes in the famous Blaugrana shirt. According to L’Equipe, the youngster is putting the finishing touches on a move to Paris Saint-Germain, with a contract running all the way to 2030 awaiting his signature.

Despite interest from top clubs across England and Germany, Dro has apparently been won over by Luis Enrique’s project in Paris. The transfer isn’t officially completed yet, but it’s heading that way at pace, with neither party looking to drag things out.

Flick’s fury

Barça gaffer Hansi Flick is absolutely gutted about the situation. While he kept his powder dry during Saturday’s pre-match presser before the Real Sociedad clash, you could tell he was proper miffed. Reading between the lines, Flick seemed to suggest outside influences had turned the lad’s head:

“There are adults who can incite them…” the German coach hinted, clearly disappointed that another bright prospect is heading for the exit.

Flick also delivered a not-so-subtle message about commitment to the club: “If they want to play for Barça, they must give everything. The colours must be defended.”

La Masia exodus concerns

What’s particularly frustrating for Barcelona is that they were following the same blueprint they used with other academy stars like Lamine Yamal and Cubarsí – planning to improve his contract after turning 18. Dro’s current deal runs until 2027, but that now seems academic.

The midfielder arrived at Barcelona in summer 2022 and has made impressive strides under Flick this season:

  • 5 first-team appearances
  • 148 minutes of senior football
  • Spain U18 international

This departure will raise further questions about Barcelona’s ability to retain their homegrown talents in the current financial climate, with PSG once again flexing their financial muscle in the Catalans’ backyard.
