Bordalás laments 'undeserved' defeat as Valencia nick points at Getafe

Getafe boss José Bordalás frustrated after his side dominated possession but fell to a narrow defeat against relegation rivals Valencia at the Coliseum.

Getafe manager José Bordalás cut a frustrated figure as his side slipped closer to the relegation zone after a disappointing home defeat to Valencia.

Domination without reward

The Azulones absolutely bossed the match at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez but couldn’t convert their dominance into goals. The home side racked up a whopping 41 crosses and numerous corners but lacked the cutting edge when it mattered most.

Bordalás didn’t mince his words in his post-match assessment, suggesting Valencia came with minimal ambition: “They came to get a point and found themselves with victory,” he lamented.

It’s a proper kick in the teeth for Getafe, who now find themselves just two points above the drop zone pending the result between Alavés and Atlético Madrid.

One moment decides all

The gaffer was particularly gutted about how his team conceded from virtually Valencia’s only meaningful attack:

“In the only defensive lapse, they scored the goal that gave them victory,” Bordalás explained, visibly disappointed that his team’s hard graft counted for nothing.

Growing relegation concerns

What’s particularly concerning for the South Madrid outfit is their home form. Once a proper fortress under Bordalás in his previous stint, the Coliseum isn’t striking fear into visitors these days.

The manager acknowledged the precarious league position:

“We’re putting ourselves in a worrying situation. Everything was very tight, teams are winning and relegation is getting closer and closer.”

Quality questions

Bordalás didn’t shy away from addressing the elephant in the room - his squad’s limitations:

  • Lack of quality in final third
  • Finishing issues despite creating chances
  • Struggling to convert possession into goals

“We lack quality and many things to score the goals that would give us victory,” he admitted with characteristic bluntness.

The defeat feels particularly painful as Valencia were direct rivals in the battle to avoid the drop, and they’ve now put daylight between themselves and Getafe.

Despite the disappointment, Bordalás praised the Getafe faithful who stuck with the team throughout. They’ll need that support more than ever as things are getting proper squeaky bum time down at the bottom.
