Deossa back in training after tonsillitis as Antony hits the gym
Colombian midfielder returns to Betis training while Manchester United loanee Antony works separately in the gym ahead of Europa League clash with PAOK.
Betis received a welcome boost as Nelson Deossa rejoined training following his fever-induced absence, while on-loan star Antony completed separate gym work as the squad prepares for their European trip to Greece.
Deossa back in the mixer
The Colombian midfielder missed out on Betis’ impressive victory against Villarreal at the weekend, having been pulled from the squad at the last minute due to a bout of tonsillitis. Good news for Pellegrini though, as Deossa appears to have shaken off his illness and rejoined his teammates for Monday’s session.
Barring any setbacks, he should be available for Thursday’s crucial Europa League clash against PAOK in Thessaloniki - the seventh matchday of the league phase.
Antony concerns
Things aren’t looking quite as rosy for Brazilian winger Antony, who’s turned out to be a proper Adam’s apple for Pellegrini since arriving from Manchester United. The loanee was subbed off late in Saturday’s win with pubic discomfort and was limited to individual gym work during Monday’s session.
The coaching staff might opt to give him a breather, considering his heavy workload since joining. Antony’s potential absence would add to Pellegrini’s selection headaches, with Isco, Junior, Bellerín and Cucho all continuing their respective recovery processes.
Moroccan duo still absent
The squad was still missing their Moroccan internationals Abde and Amrabat, who suffered heartbreak in Sunday night’s Africa Cup of Nations final defeat.
Abde completed the full match including extra time, making it unlikely he’ll feature in the midweek European fixture. Meanwhile, Amrabat continues struggling with ankle problems and will be assessed by medical staff upon his return to Seville to determine the exact nature of the issue and recovery timeline.
The Verdiblancos are coming off an impressive win against Villarreal at the weekend, with Pellegrini rewarding his troops with a day off before returning to training on Monday.
