Endrick already crowned the new 'King of Lyon' after dazzling Groupama Stadium

The Real Madrid loanee has made an immediate impact in France, earning MVP honours against Brest with a performance that has Lyon fans and rivals singing his praises.

Just two matches and 161 minutes is all it’s taken for Endrick Felipe to become Lyon’s new footballing royalty, with the Brazilian teenager already turning heads in Ligue 1.

The Real Madrid loanee, fresh off scoring on his cup debut against Lille, was the star attraction during the 10th anniversary celebrations of Lyon’s Groupama Stadium. Playing from the right side, the 17-year-old Brazilian was named Man of the Match in Lyon’s 2-1 victory over Brest.

Stats that speak volumes

Endrick’s performance was absolutely top drawer. The numbers tell a proper story:

  • Most shots in the match (4, with 2 on target)
  • Most completed dribbles (9 from 18 attempts)
  • Most duels won (13 from 25)
  • Most chances created (5)
  • Most interceptions (2)
  • Second-most successful tackles for Lyon (2 from 3)

He also provided the assist for compatriot Abner Vinicius’s goal, which turned out to be the winner. Even Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr acknowledged his countryman’s performance, congratulating him via Instagram.

”A unique player”

The French press was equally impressed, with L’Équipe highlighting how Endrick “electrified the Groupama with his brilliance, offensive power and classy moves.”

Endrick himself seemed proper chuffed with his home debut: “I never imagined playing here in front of so many people. They didn’t stop shouting and singing. It was the perfect match.”

Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca is already singing the youngster’s praises: “He’s a unique player,” though the Portuguese gaffer believes there’s more to come, adding that Endrick “needs to improve physically” and become “more intense and consistent throughout the match.”

Making waves in France

Even the opposition can’t help but admire the Brazilian wonderkid. Brest assistant Julien Lachuer described him as “a small genius who doesn’t shy away from challenges.”

Lyon fans will have to wait until Sunday against Metz to see their new star in action again, as he wasn’t registered for the Europa League group stage and will miss the midweek clash with Young Boys.

The Brazilian’s impact has been immediate, and if these first performances are anything to go by, Lyon have got themselves a proper diamond for the remainder of the season. Madrid will be watching closely as their investment continues to shine in France.
