Fermín's cheeky dig at VAR after Lamine's disallowed goal
Barcelona midfielder Fermín López took to Instagram with an ironic reaction to the controversial offside call that denied Lamine Yamal a goal against Real Sociedad.
Barcelona’s frustration with officiating boils over on social media as Fermín López takes aim at controversial VAR decision in Anoeta defeat.
VAR controversy strikes again
It seems the Barcelona dressing room was absolutely fuming after their clash with Real Sociedad, with players and coaching staff alike making their feelings crystal clear about Gil Manzano and the VAR team’s performance.
First it was Frenkie de Jong having a pop, then gaffer Hansi Flick had his say to the press, but it was Fermín López who really took things to another level with a proper cheeky dig on social media.
The Spanish midfielder couldn’t resist sharing the controversial VAR image from the broadcast that supposedly showed Lamine Yamal in an offside position for one of Barça’s disallowed goals. Fermín posted the screenshot to his Instagram story alongside several laughing emojis – not exactly subtle, is it?
What’s got the Barça players’ goat is that in the shared image, it’s far from clear whether Lamine’s foot is actually ahead of the Real Sociedad defender’s. The whole thing looks about as clear as mud to the naked eye.
Team unity in defeat
Despite the social media mischief, Fermín was quick to rally behind his teammates after the disappointing result in San Sebastián. He posted a message of solidarity on his profile, declaring: “Proud of my team, they won’t break us.”
The defeat at Anoeta has clearly left a sour taste, but Barcelona’s players seem determined to use the controversial decisions as fuel rather than let them knock the wind out of their sails.
Wider officiating concerns
This incident adds to the growing list of VAR controversies in La Liga this season, with millimeter-tight offside calls continuing to frustrate players, coaches and fans alike. The technology that was meant to bring clarity seems to be creating just as many arguments as it resolves.
For Barcelona, it’s another case of what might have been, but they’ll need to dust themselves down quickly as the title race waits for no team – not even when they feel hard done by the officials.
