Levante closing in on Israeli winger Tai Abed as third winter signing
The 21-year-old PSV II standout with Spanish passport set to arrive in Valencia for medical ahead of potential 2029 contract with Levante.
Young Israeli talent Tai Abed is on the verge of becoming Levante’s third winter transfer window acquisition, with the 21-year-old winger expected in Valencia shortly for his medical.
Rising star from PSV’s second team
Abed, who currently plies his trade with PSV’s second team in the Dutch second division, has been turning heads this season with some proper tidy numbers. The left winger has notched up:
- 7 goals in 20 appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie
- 4 assists to complement his goalscoring form
- First-team experience with PSV in cup competition (69 minutes against GVVV Veenendaal)
The Tel Aviv-born talent, who conveniently holds a Spanish passport, is set to sign a lengthy contract keeping him at Orriols until June 2029. Word on the street is that Levante are bagging him for what the suits would call a ‘nominal fee’ - not exactly costing an arm and a leg, as my old man would say.
International pedigree
The Israeli Football Association seems chuffed to bits about the move, having already acknowledged on social media that one of their brightest prospects will be “carrying their flag high in Spain” - clearly viewing this as a bit of a feather in the cap for Israeli football.
Abed has represented Israel at youth level and was part of the squad that finished third in last summer’s U-20 World Cup, showing he’s got the minerals to perform on the international stage.
Fitting into Luís Castro’s plans
The youngster will become the latest addition to Luís Castro’s tactical setup, joining two previous January arrivals as the manager looks to strengthen his options for the remainder of the campaign.
With his impressive output in the Dutch second tier, Abed could provide the creative spark and goalscoring threat from wide areas that Castro’s been after. Having already had a taste of first-team football at PSV, the step up to Levante might not be as daunting as it would be for other prospects his age.
The Valencia-based club will be hoping Abed can hit the ground running and translate his promising form to Spanish football immediately.
