Lukovic heading for Las Palmas exit as Mirandés circle for Serbian striker
The Serbian forward finds himself pushed down the pecking order after Las Palmas' January reinforcements, with Segunda División strugglers Mirandés keen to snap him up.
Serbian striker Milos Lukovic looks set for an early departure from Las Palmas after falling victim to the club’s ambitious January transfer window activity.
From starter to third choice
The on-loan Strasbourg forward has seen his stock plummet dramatically in recent weeks. After starting regularly earlier in the season, Lukovic has been leapfrogged in the pecking order by not one but two attackers:
- Former Real Madrid youth product Jesé displaced him five matches ago
- Recent arrival Iker Bravo has now pushed him further down to third choice
According to reports from Canarias7, Las Palmas are planning discussions with Strasbourg to terminate the loan agreement prematurely, despite appreciating the Serbian’s professional attitude throughout his time at the club.
Mirandés to the rescue?
The situation has alerted struggling Segunda División side Mirandés, who are monitoring developments closely. The rojillos see Lukovic as a perfect fit for their project and are desperate for firepower in their battle against relegation to Primera RFEF.
Any move depends on Las Palmas successfully negotiating an early termination with Strasbourg, but it looks increasingly likely that Lukovic will be on his way to Anduva before the January window slams shut.
Talk about a downgrade
It would be a proper kick in the teeth for Lukovic if the move materialises. One minute he’s fighting for promotion to La Liga with Las Palmas, the next he’s in a proper dogfight at the wrong end of the table with Mirandés. That’s football for you - one day you’re the dog’s dinner, the next you’re yesterday’s news.
Las Palmas’ attacking reinforcements have clearly been deemed necessary by management, but Lukovic appears to be the fall guy as the Canary Islanders reshape their squad for a promotion push in the second half of the season.
