Zaragoza's home woes continue as relegation threat looms
Real Zaragoza's dismal home form continues as they salvage a late point against Real Sociedad B, leaving them just three points above the drop zone.
Real Zaragoza’s survival hopes in Spain’s Segunda División are hanging by a thread, with their away form the only thing keeping their head above water as home performances continue to disappoint their faithful supporters.
Home nightmare continues
The Aragonese side managed to rescue a point in the dying moments against Real Sociedad B, but it was another missed opportunity to create breathing space from the relegation zone, which sits just three points away.
Sellés’ men have established themselves as the second-worst home team in the division, with some proper shocking numbers:
- Just 2 wins from 11 home matches
- Only 9 points collected at Ibercaja Estadio
- Only victories against Huesca and Leganés on home soil
To put that in perspective, only Mirandés have a worse home record - and they’ve only recently returned to their actual home ground after playing previous matches at Mendizorroza.
Another home test looms
This Sunday brings another opportunity to break their home hoodoo, but the task couldn’t be much tougher. Promotion-chasing Castellón will visit the Ibercaja Estadio riding high in the automatic promotion spots.
There is a glimmer of hope - Castellón’s away form isn’t quite as impressive as their home results, with 4 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses on their travels. However, if Zaragoza produce a performance similar to the one against Real Sociedad B (commonly known as ‘Sanse’), they’ll have absolutely no chance.
Transfer inactivity causing frustration
To make matters worse, the club’s transfer activity - or lack thereof - is driving fans up the wall. No reinforcements have arrived yet, while the club struggles to move players out the door.
The slow pace of business from the club’s brass is leaving supporters at their wit’s end. With each passing matchday, Zaragoza inch closer to relegation to Primera RFEF (Spain’s third tier) while the club’s leadership appears to be having a bubble bath instead of taking action.
