Andorra draw Barça Atlètic in Copa Catalunya semi-final clash
FC Andorra will face Barcelona's B team at the Johan Cruyff Stadium in February's Copa Catalunya semi-final, with the Pyrenees side looking to continue their winning streak.
Andorra set for Johan Cruyff Stadium trip in cup competition as they aim to reach the Copa Catalunya final.
FC Andorra have been drawn against Barça Atlètic in what promises to be a proper tasty semi-final of the Copa Catalunya. The fixture lottery was conducted today, sending the Pyrenees outfit to the Johan Cruyff Stadium for a February 11th showdown, with kickoff time still to be confirmed.
Recent form and qualification
The tricolores booked their place in the semis after a dramatic last-gasp victory over Europa, showing they’ve got the bottle when it matters. Meanwhile, Juliano Belletti’s Barça youngsters advanced by seeing off Camp Joliu in their quarter-final tie.
It’s worth noting that Barça Atlètic currently compete in Segunda RFEF (Spain’s fourth tier), where they’re sitting pretty in fifth position in Group 3. This represents a step down from last season when both sides locked horns in Primera RFEF.
Historical head-to-head
These two sides are hardly strangers, having crossed paths multiple times in recent years. Last season’s encounters in Primera RFEF ended with Andorra doing the double over Barcelona’s reserves – a fact that should give them plenty of confidence heading into this cup tie.
The other semi-final
On the other side of the draw, we’ve got Sabadell squaring off against Nàstic (Gimnàstic de Tarragona) in what’s shaping up to be another intriguing all-Catalan affair.
For Andorra, this competition represents a chance for some silverware during what’s been a challenging season. They’ll fancy their chances against Barça’s youngsters, even if they’ll have to do it away from home.
The winners of these semi-finals will advance to the Copa Catalunya final, with both teams just two steps away from lifting the regional trophy.
