Bournemouth splash £10m on Hungarian wonderkid Alex Tóth - Szoboszlai's heir apparent
The Cherries have secured 20-year-old Hungarian international Alex Tóth from Ferencvaros on a deal until 2031, with sporting director Tiago Pinto buzzing about the signing.
Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth have dipped into the Hungarian market again, this time snapping up highly-rated midfielder Alex Tóth from Ferencvaros for around £10 million (€12m).
The Hungarian Pipeline Continues
Just months after selling Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez to Liverpool for a tasty £40 million, the Cherries have gone back to the well, securing 20-year-old Tóth on a lengthy contract running until 2031. Talk about planning for the future!
Tóth has been drawing comparisons to Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai in Hungary, with both sharing that sublime right-footed technique, particularly from dead-ball situations. The Budapest-born midfielder has already notched 4 goals and a proper impressive 14 assists in 60 appearances for Ferencvaros.
What the Brass Says
Bournemouth’s football operations director Tiago Pinto seems well chuffed with the acquisition:
“I’m delighted to bring such a young talent as Alex to the club,” Pinto stated, clearly excited about the prospect of Iraola molding another Hungarian gem on the south coast.
Player’s Perspective
Tóth himself seems absolutely buzzing about making the move to the Premier League, describing it as “the best league in the world and the strongest.”
The midfielder was clearly impressed by the setup at Bournemouth, adding: “When I spoke with the directors, it became clear because they were wonderful people.”
What He Brings
- Exceptional right-footed technique
- Set-piece specialist
- Creative passing range (14 assists speak volumes)
- European experience despite his young age
- Potential to develop further under Iraola’s guidance
With Kerkez’s successful stint at Bournemouth before his big-money move to Liverpool, the club will be hoping Tóth can follow a similar trajectory. If he’s half as good as his compatriot Szoboszlai, the Cherries might have pulled off a right Bobby Dazzler of a deal here.
