Mamah makes Turkish return as Castellón offload Nigerian winger
CD Castellón have confirmed the departure of Kenneth Mamah to Turkish second division side Vanspor after 18 months with the Spanish club.
Nigerian winger Kenneth Mamah has packed his bags for Turkey after Castellón confirmed his transfer to second-tier side Vanspor, bringing an end to his brief Spanish adventure.
Turkish return
The move sees Mamah heading back to familiar territory, having played in Turkey before joining the Albinegros (Black and Whites) 18 months ago. During his time with Castellón, the Nigerian made 37 appearances and netted five goals, though his impact gradually diminished over his stay.
Falling down the pecking order
Mamah’s Castellón journey has been a proper rollercoaster:
- Started as an undisputed starter under former manager Dick Schreuder
- Lost his place following Johan Plat’s appointment
- Suffered a serious injury in late February that ended his season prematurely
- Briefly revived his fortunes under current boss Pablo Hernández
His brightest moment this season came during Hernández’s debut, when he scored a crucial goal to help Castellón defeat Cultural Leonesa. This sparked a brief renaissance with four consecutive starts.
Competition proves decisive
Despite that purple patch, Mamah struggled to maintain consistency in his performances. The situation was further complicated by the impressive form of Awer Mabil on the right flank, which ultimately saw the Nigerian tumble down Hernández’s selection hierarchy.
The transfer represents a fresh start for Mamah, who’ll be hoping to rediscover his best form back in Turkey, while Castellón continue their restructuring efforts with another outgoing transfer this January.
