Raúl Sánchez makes Castellón homecoming after Mexican sojourn

The Spanish striker returns to Castellón after just six months at Necaxa, bringing his goalscoring prowess back to aid the club's promotion push to La Liga.

CD Castellón have pulled off quite the January coup by bringing back fan favourite Raúl Sánchez from Mexican side Necaxa after just six months away from Castalia.

Prodigal Son Returns

Talk about a proper homecoming! Sánchez has made a swift return to Castellón where he previously spent three successful years before his brief Mexican adventure. The striker’s return represents a massive boost for the orellut side who are currently sitting pretty in second position in Segunda División after 22 matchdays.

During his previous stint at Castellón, Sánchez became absolutely crucial to the team’s fortunes, particularly in his final season where he banged in 12 goals to help secure their Segunda División status. That scoring form earned him his move to Necaxa, but the separation has proven short-lived with both parties clearly missing each other.

Promotion Push

Castellón aren’t mucking about this season - they’ve got their sights firmly set on promotion to La Liga, and bringing back their goalscoring talisman signals their serious intent. With the club currently occupying an automatic promotion spot, the powers that be have decided to strengthen rather than stand still.

Sánchez becomes the first winter window arrival for Castellón, who have already shown three players the door this January:

  • Óscar Gil
  • Kenneth Mamah
  • Nick Markanich

What It Means

For the Castellón faithful, this is a proper Bobby Dazzler of a signing. Sánchez knows the club inside out, understands the manager’s expectations, and most importantly, has proven he can find the back of the onion bag at this level.

With the business end of the season approaching, having a striker who doesn’t need time to adapt could be the difference between promotion and another year in the second tier. The Mexican experiment may not have worked out as planned for Sánchez, but Castellón have wasted no time in bringing their boy back home.
