Real Zaragoza's Transfer Exodus Hits the Buffers
With the transfer window closing soon, Zaragoza's inability to offload players is stalling incoming transfers, leaving the relegation-threatened club in limbo.
The clock’s ticking for Real Zaragoza as they desperately need reinforcements to escape the relegation dogfight, but their transfer plans have gone completely Pete Tong with player exits stalling.
Transfer Deadlock
With less than two weeks remaining in the January transfer window, goalkeeper Sebastian Kosa remains the only player to have departed the struggling side. Sitting second-bottom in the table, Zaragoza’s hierarchy appears frozen in a state of tense calm rather than showing the urgency their position demands.
The club’s inability to shift unwanted players is creating a proper bottleneck, preventing any new signings from coming through the door. Two players in particular are caught in this transfer limbo:
-
Samed Bazdar - The Bosnian forward, who cost €3 million as a “future prospect” (read: absolute nightmare), has attracted several offers that the club deemed insufficient. Zaragoza’s brass seem to be ignoring the fact they’ve devalued their own asset by barely playing him.
-
Dani Gómez - One of the highest earners at the club, Sporting Gijón are keen but only want him on loan or for free. Zaragoza don’t want to pay a termination fee, and with neither side budging, the deal looks dead in the water. To make matters worse, he’s now behind Bakis in the pecking order - a striker whose only contribution has been a solitary goal against Burgos.
Fan Frustration Mounting
While sporting director Indias and manager Sellés might understand their strategy, the fanbase is becoming increasingly agitated. Supporters are watching helplessly as rival clubs strengthen their squads while Zaragoza remains inactive during this crucial period.
The harsh reality is that survival in Segunda División likely depends on multiple new signings, but at present, there’s no guarantee any will materialize before the window slams shut.
For a club of Zaragoza’s size and history, this transfer window paralysis is nothing short of embarrassing. They need to stop being penny-wise and pound-foolish - sometimes you’ve got to spend money to make money, or in this case, to avoid the catastrophe of relegation to the third tier.
