Valencia on verge of Guido Rodríguez deal as West Ham exit looms
The Mestalla club close in on Argentine midfielder Guido Rodríguez from West Ham, with multiple loan and transfer options being explored to beat the transfer deadline.
Valencia are putting the finishing touches on a deal to bring World Cup winner Guido Rodríguez to Mestalla, with the Argentine’s West Ham nightmare set to end imminently.
Deal structure still being finalised
The Spanish side are exploring multiple options to secure the 31-year-old defensive midfielder, who has barely featured for the Hammers this season. Initially, a loan until June 2026 was discussed, but with Rodríguez’s contract expiring this summer, West Ham are considering:
- Extending his contract by one year and loaning him with an obligatory purchase clause
- Selling him permanently in this window, though Valencia would need to navigate Financial Fair Play constraints
What’s clear is that all parties want this sorted sharpish, with the transfer window’s closing bell about to ring. The player himself has already given the green light to the move, keen to get his career back on track after a disappointing spell in London.
Premier League struggles
Rodríguez has managed just six appearances totalling 177 minutes in the Premier League since joining West Ham last summer from Real Betis, where he’d been a proper diamond for five seasons. His move to England has been a right old disappointment after his stellar La Liga stint.
Other clubs including Brazilian outfit Gremio had been sniffing around, but Valencia have nipped in ahead of the competition.
Perfect fit for Corberán
For Valencia, Rodríguez represents exactly what manager Rubén Corberán has been crying out for – an experienced defensive presence in midfield. The club has struggled for consistency in the first half of the season, with Corberán unable to find his ideal holding midfielder.
The Argentine’s arrival would provide immediate alternatives to current options Pepelu, Ugrinic and Javi Guerra, with his La Liga experience making him ready for immediate impact. Significantly, Corberán doesn’t see Santamaría as a viable option in the pivote role, making this move even more critical.
