Andorra Snap Up Marc Cardona as Third Winter Arrival

FC Andorra have completed the signing of experienced Spanish forward Marc Cardona on a free transfer from Las Palmas, marking their third winter window addition.

Andorra have bolstered their attacking options with the acquisition of experienced Spanish forward Marc Cardona on a free transfer until the end of the season.

Third Winter Signing

The Lleida-born striker, who was raised in Andalusia, arrives at the Pyrenean club after terminating his contract with Las Palmas. He becomes Andorra’s third reinforcement during the January transfer window as they look to secure their Segunda División status.

Cardona brings considerable pedigree to the Tricolors, having made his name at Barcelona B where he bagged 17 goals during their 2016/17 promotion campaign to Spain’s second tier. Since then, he’s had spells across Spanish football with Eibar, Osasuna and Mallorca, plus a stint abroad with Dutch side Go Ahead Eagles, before spending the last three and a half seasons with Las Palmas.

To accommodate Cardona’s arrival, Andorra will need to free up a squad spot, with young forward Aitor Uzkudun reportedly set to depart on loan.

Timely Boost After Crucial Win

The signing comes at a positive moment for Andorra, who gave themselves some breathing space with a massive result last weekend. Their victory against fellow strugglers Mirandés has opened up a five-point gap to the relegation zone - proper dog’s dinner avoided for now!

Defender Gael Alonso spoke about the team’s growing maturity: “We knew how to suffer, but we also know we’ve matured.”

The centre-back, who has been a fixture in Carles Manso’s setup, added they “cannot relax” in such a competitive division as Segunda.

Looking Ahead

Andorra’s next challenge comes this Sunday at their Nuevo Estadio de la FAF home ground, where they’ll host struggling Huesca (14:00 local time). The visitors are in dire straits, sitting third from bottom after three consecutive defeats and having picked up points in just three of their 11 away matches this season.

For Alonso personally, it’s been a dream season. The Galician defender is the second-most used player in the squad behind only Sergio Molina, and has contributed two goals already this campaign.

With Cardona’s arrival and renewed confidence after their crucial win, Gerard Piqué’s club will be looking to put more daylight between themselves and the drop zone in the coming weeks.
