Dani Rodríguez's wife takes aim at Arrasate in emotional outburst after Leganés move
After being frozen out at Mallorca following a public criticism of his manager, Dani Rodríguez has joined Leganés - and his wife hasn't held back.
Dani Rodríguez’s Mallorca exit has taken a spicy turn as his wife launches a proper broadside at manager Jagoba Arrasate following the midfielder’s move to Leganés.
From hero to zero at Mallorca
The 37-year-old midfielder, who spent seven and a half seasons with the Balearic club, found himself completely frozen out after publicly criticizing Arrasate for not playing him against Real Madrid at the Bernabéu. The fallout was brutal:
- Stripped of the captaincy
- Suspended for 10 days without pay
- Not played a single minute since the incident
- Contract terminated in December
Rodríguez was no squad filler either - during his time with Los Bermellones, he helped secure two promotions to La Liga and even scored in a Copa del Rey final. Proper servant to the club, that.
Wife’s Instagram blast
Cristina Palavra, Rodríguez’s wife, took to Instagram to express her disappointment with how her husband was treated, and she wasn’t pulling any punches.
“No one can end your career or your dreams,” she wrote in a particularly pointed barb aimed at Arrasate.
She detailed how Rodríguez continued training alone for four months, “without missing a single day,” keeping fit at home, following routines, working on both body and mind despite having “no team, no pitch, no dressing room.”
New beginnings at Leganés
The midfielder has now signed with Leganés until June, with an option to extend for another season if certain objectives are met. A chance for redemption after what his wife described as “the most difficult test of his life.”
For a player approaching the twilight of his career, this move represents a lifeline. After being left on the shelf at Mallorca, he’ll be hoping to prove there’s still plenty left in the tank at Butarque.
The whole saga’s a bit of a dog’s dinner if you ask me - from valued veteran to persona non grata over one public criticism seems a touch harsh. But that’s football sometimes, innit? One minute you’re the apple of their eye, next minute you’re on your Todd.
