Escobar backs himself to solve Huesca's goal drought: 'I find it easy to score'
New Huesca signing Jordi Escobar brings confidence to the relegation-threatened side as he prepares for his debut after transfer paperwork delayed his first appearance.
Jordi Escobar isn’t short on confidence as he arrives at SD Huesca with the mission of firing the struggling side away from the Segunda División relegation zone.
Ready for action
The Catalan striker was officially unveiled this week as Huesca’s second January signing, bringing much-needed firepower to a team desperate for goals. Escobar was meant to make his debut last weekend, but bureaucratic red tape meant his transfer paperwork wasn’t processed in time.
That’s all sorted now though, and the forward is champing at the bit to get stuck in, confirming he’ll be available for the upcoming trip to Andorra: “I’m ready to play and give everything.”
Why Huesca?
Escobar revealed he had multiple options on the table this January but was won over by Huesca’s persistence and vision for the future:
“We had several options, but I was swayed by the interest they showed from the beginning and their project. It’s been the best decision I could have made.”
Goalscoring credentials
What will be music to Huesca supporters’ ears is Escobar’s self-assessment of his abilities. The forward arrives with a clear understanding of what’s expected of him - finding the back of the onion bag.
Describing his playing style, Escobar explained: “I’m a striker who likes to play with his back to goal and makes good runs into space. I find it easy to score.”
That last bit might sound like a bold claim, but for a Huesca side currently in the drop zone, it’s exactly the kind of confidence they need from their new frontman.
Optimism despite relegation battle
Despite joining a team currently in the relegation places, Escobar isn’t fazed by the challenge ahead:
“We’re in a bad patch, but football works in cycles. We’re going to get out of this. I see a united group focused on getting three points this weekend.”
The striker’s positivity could be just what the doctor ordered for a Huesca side desperate to climb the table and secure their Segunda División status.
