Faye's Portuguese adventure begins as Granada cash in on rising star

Senegalese winger makes dream move to Sporting Lisbon after just six months at Granada, with the Spanish club set to profit handsomely from the deal.

After weeks of speculation, Granada have finally parted ways with one of their brightest talents as Faye completes his move to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in a deal that sees the youngster rocket from Spain’s third tier to potential Champions League football in a matter of months.

Deal Details

The transfer saga finally reached its conclusion after marathon negotiations between the clubs. Sporting have splashed out €6.5 million for the Senegalese winger, with Granada entitled to 50% of that fee. The deal could get even sweeter for the Spanish side with:

  • An additional €2 million in performance-based add-ons
  • 10% sell-on clause secured for any future transfer
  • Granada pocketing a tidy profit after signing him for just €600,000 last summer

The Andalusian outfit did try to keep the player on loan until the end of the season, but Sporting weren’t having any of that, mate. Can’t blame them - they’ve got European ambitions and wanted their man straight away.

Financial Boost, Sporting Headache

For Granada, it’s a proper result on the financial front. The club’s coffers were looking a bit Pete Tong, and this cash injection gives them some serious wriggle room in the January window.

However, manager Pacheta now faces the challenge of replacing one of his key attacking threats. Finding a suitable replacement before the transfer window slams shut will be crucial if Granada are to climb away from the wrong end of the table.

Brief But Impactful Stay

Faye departs Los Cármenes after just six months and 19 league appearances, during which he scored twice and provided six assists. His direct running and game-changing ability caught the eye of one of Portugal’s most prestigious clubs, and now he’ll have the chance to showcase his talents on a much bigger stage.

For a player with tremendous upside who was playing in Spain’s third tier not long ago, the opportunity to potentially feature in the Champions League represents a meteoric rise.
