Fer López nearing Celta Vigo return as Wolves nightmare continues
Former academy product could make shock return to Balaídos just six months after Premier League move, with Wolves' relegation struggles playing a key role in potential deal.
Former Celta Vigo academy product Fer López is closing in on a return to his boyhood club, with negotiations accelerating as the January transfer window enters its final stages.
Premier League nightmare
López’s move to Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer hasn’t exactly gone according to plan. The Spanish midfielder has managed just 364 minutes of playing time across all competitions in England, while Wolves have endured a disastrous campaign that sees them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with a paltry 8 points.
The player himself has reportedly been pushing hard for a return to the club where he developed and made his La Liga debut. It’s no wonder he’s keen to scarper back to Galicia given the state of things at Molineux.
Giráldez keen on reunion
Celta manager Claudio Giráldez has always been eager to bring López back to Balaídos, even if only on a temporary basis until the end of the season. The gaffer clearly rates the lad and sees him fitting straight back into his plans.
Making room in the squad
The Galician club has been busy creating space for López’s potential return:
- Fran Beltrán and Damián have both departed, freeing up two squad places
- Luca de la Torre and Tadeo Allende have been permanently transferred, though both had already been out on loan for a year
These moves were considered essential to facilitate López’s return to Vigo, which now appears to be on the home straight.
While the deal isn’t completely sorted yet, all signs point to López getting his wish to return to more familiar surroundings after his Premier League move turned into a bit of a dog’s dinner.
