Las Palmas hit with fresh injury blow as Viti faces two months on the sidelines
Asturian right-back Viti Rozada suffers quad tear, leaving Las Palmas with selection headache as both specialist right-backs now injured
Las Palmas have been dealt another injury setback with right-back Viti Rozada facing approximately two months out after suffering a fibrillar tear in his right quadriceps.
Injury Details
The alarm bells started ringing when the Asturian defender was forced off after just 22 minutes during Las Palmas’ defeat at El Sardinero. What initially appeared to be discomfort has now been confirmed as a significant muscle tear following medical tests.
Selection Crisis at Right-Back
This latest blow creates a proper mare for Las Palmas in the right-back position, leaving manager Luis García with a serious selection headache:
- Marvin, the club’s other specialist right-back, has been unavailable through injury since December 14th
- Álex Suárez was forced to fill in during the last match
- The club now finds itself without both of its specialist right-backs
Available Options
While Marvin would be the natural replacement when fit, Las Palmas do have some alternatives to consider:
- Álex Suárez has significant experience playing at right-back throughout his career
- The gaffer could look to Las Palmas B, where Pezzolesi has been knocking on the door for several seasons
- The academy product was training with the first team until last month and has made four official appearances over the past two seasons
The injury couldn’t have come at a worse time for Las Palmas as they look to maintain their position in what’s turning into a right old dog’s dinner of a Segunda División season. They’ll need to sort this defensive issue sharpish if they want to avoid getting dragged into trouble.
