Lopy's injury woes: Almería midfielder faces weeks on sidelines with muscle tear
Senegalese international Dion Lopy has suffered a setback in his recovery with a grade two tear in his right femoral rectus, keeping him out for several more weeks.
Almería’s midfield engine room has taken another hit as Senegalese international Dion Lopy faces an extended spell on the treatment table with a newly diagnosed muscle tear.
Injury Details
The 23-year-old midfielder, who initially picked up a quadriceps problem in his right leg during post-Christmas training, has now been diagnosed with something more serious. The Andalusian club confirmed in an official statement that Lopy is suffering from “a grade two myoaponeurotic tear in the right femoral rectus”.
This latest setback means the Senegalese talent will remain sidelined for several more weeks, extending an absence that’s already kept him out of action since the turn of the year.
Recovery Timeline
The club provided some insight into Lopy’s current recovery process:
- Currently in the physiotherapy and gym rehabilitation phase
- Expected to progress to field testing next week if his recovery continues positively
- No specific return date mentioned, but the nature of the injury suggests a lengthy absence
Impact on Almería
This is proper bad news for Gaizka Garitano’s squad, who’ve already had to make do without Lopy for their last three LaLiga Hypermotion fixtures against Granada, Mirandés and Deportivo La Coruña.
The midfielder has been an important figure for Almería this season:
- 16 league appearances under manager Rubi
- 2 goals in the league campaign
- 1 Copa del Rey appearance
Lopy, who arrived at the Mediterranean club in summer 2023 from French side Stade de Reims, will be hoping his body plays ball in the coming weeks as he aims to get back on the pitch for the business end of the season.
