Marc Cardona cuts ties with Las Palmas with Andorra move on the cards

The Catalan striker departs the Canary Islands club after playing a key role in their promotion campaign but falling out of favour under Luis García.

Marc Cardona becomes the fourth player to leave Las Palmas this January as the club continues to reshape their squad for the business end of the season. The Catalan forward has mutually agreed to terminate his contract that was set to expire this summer.

Limited opportunities

It’s been a proper mare for Cardona this term under Luis García, who’s barely given him a sniff. The striker has managed just 134 minutes across six appearances, with his last run-out coming way back on October 19th. Las Palmas president had actually tipped his departure on January 13th during a Radio MARCA Gran Canaria interview.

From hero to zero

Cardona’s Las Palmas journey has been a right rollercoaster:

  • Arrived for the 2022/23 campaign on García Pimienta’s recommendation
  • Played a crucial role in the promotion season, netting 7 goals in 36 matches
  • Continued to contribute in La Liga with 4 goals under Pimienta
  • Fell dramatically out of favour under new management
  • Last season saw him limited to just 122 minutes across 11 substitute appearances

Piqué’s Andorra beckons

With his contract now torn up, Cardona is free as a bird to join a new club. According to journalist Ángel García, Gerard Piqué’s FC Andorra have shown the strongest interest in securing his services. The Principality club are looking to bolster their attacking options, and Cardona could be just the ticket.

The 28-year-old striker, who came through Barcelona’s youth system before spells at Eibar, Osasuna and others, will be hoping this move can reignite his career after finding himself well and truly frozen out at Las Palmas.
