Soberón's nightmare run continues with fresh injury blow
Real Zaragoza forward Mario Soberón faces another setback with a soleus injury, extending his absence after a recent red card suspension.
Bit of a mare for Mario Soberón as his rotten luck continues at Real Zaragoza. Just as he was set to return from suspension, the forward has been sidelined again - this time with a muscle problem.
Red card to injury woe
Soberón was all set to make his comeback this Sunday against Castellón after serving a one-match ban for a red card picked up in Santander. But the club has now confirmed he’s suffering from a soleus strain in his right leg, ruling him out of the weekend clash.
The timing couldn’t be worse for both player and club. Zaragoza are desperate for attacking options as they battle to stay in Spain’s second tier, and they’ll now be hoping Soberón can recover in time for next week’s crucial relegation six-pointer against Albacete.
Attacking options limited
The injury leaves manager Rubén Sellés with limited options up front:
- Kodro and Bakis will likely continue as the main strikers
- Samed Bazdar is on the verge of a loan move away from the club
- Dani Gómez remains out of favour with the Valencia-born coach
The good news for Zaragoza fans is that Soberón’s injury isn’t considered serious, and he should be back in contention relatively soon. The club desperately needs him to rediscover the form he showed at the start of last season, as his campaign has been disrupted by both suspensions and injuries.
Aguirregabiria boost
It’s not all doom and gloom at La Romareda though. Martín Aguirregabiria has recovered from his muscle tear and could be the surprise inclusion in the starting eleven this weekend.
Sellés faces a selection dilemma - whether to thrust the Basque defender straight back into the starting lineup or keep Ale Gomes in place, introducing Aguirregabiria from the bench. Before his injury, Aguirregabiria had established himself as a key figure in the Zaragoza setup.
