Cádiz vs Granada: High security for heated Andalusian derby after previous violence

Authorities roll out extensive security measures for the high-risk Cádiz-Granada clash following serious ultras confrontation at previous derby.

Security’s gone proper tight for this weekend’s tasty Andalusian derby between Cádiz and Granada, with authorities taking no chances after previous trouble between the rival fans.

Maximum Alert for Saturday Showdown

The Nuevo Mirandilla stadium will be surrounded by a massive police presence when these two sides meet on Saturday at 9pm local time. This fixture has officially been classified as ‘high-risk’ following some proper naughty business between ultras at previous meetings.

Blanca Flores, the Government’s representative in Cádiz, has coordinated a special operation aimed at ensuring the match remains what it should be - a sporting event marked by respect rather than aggro.

Previous Violence Prompts Action

These preventative measures aren’t coming out of thin air. The last time these teams’ hardcore supporters crossed paths, it kicked off big time around Granada’s Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium, resulting in:

  • 49 fans identified by police
  • Confiscation of dangerous weapons including knuckledusters
  • Various other weapons and blunt objects seized

To avoid a repeat performance, the National Police, Civil Guard and Local Police are joining forces to intensify surveillance around the stadium and at strategic points throughout the city.

Full Operation Details

The security operation will begin Friday night and continue through the weekend. Supporting the police will be private security firms, Civil Protection, Red Cross and Fire Brigade personnel - all hands on deck for this one.

A capacity crowd is expected at the Nuevo Mirandilla, with authorities advising supporters to arrive early as gates will open at 7:45pm, giving plenty of time for security checks.

With thousands of fans set to create a proper atmosphere for one of Andalusia’s most electric derbies, officials are determined that the only fireworks will be on the pitch, not in the stands or streets.
