Granada's transfer window heats up with three deals in the pipeline

The Andalusian club races against time as they pursue Diocou loan deal while missing out on Álvaro García, with Pablo Sáenz potentially heading to Oviedo.

Granada CF are scrambling like a cat on a hot tin roof with just ten days left in the January transfer window, working on multiple fronts to bolster their squad for the relegation battle ahead.

Diocou deal nearly done

After Gonzalo Petit’s arrival and Faye’s departure, manager Pacheta publicly acknowledged the club’s priority was finding a replacement for the Senegalese winger. It appears they’ve found their man in Baba Diocou.

Granada have reportedly reached an agreement with Tenerife for Diocou, who’s currently on loan at Arenas de Getxo. The deal would see him join the Andalusian outfit until the end of the season. The Nazaríes are pushing hard to include a purchase option in the loan agreement, something the Canary Islanders haven’t yet agreed to.

By moving swiftly for Diocou, Granada seem to have outpaced other interested parties – a strategy they couldn’t replicate elsewhere.

Álvaro García slips through their fingers

In a proper kick in the teeth for Granada, their pursuit of Mérida attacker Álvaro García has hit the skids. Despite initially appearing to have won the race for the forward, who had several Segunda División clubs after him, Castellón’s late intervention has apparently scuppered the deal. The Cantabrian player now looks set to join the Albinegros instead.

Sáenz potentially Oviedo-bound

According to journalist Ángel García, Oviedo have reached an agreement with Pablo Sáenz to join them on June 30th when his contract expires. The midfielder has been free to negotiate with other clubs since January 1st.

However, Oviedo are now considering approaching Granada to secure his services immediately for a fee, rather than waiting until summer.

Clock ticking on relegation battle

Granada face a complex puzzle as the transfer window winds down. With the club currently stuck in the relegation zone, sporting director Matteo Tognozzi knows they must get their January business spot on to avoid the drop to the third tier – a danger that becomes more real with each passing week.
