Racing Santander's goal streak smashes Spanish football record
Racing's scoring streak in every Segunda División match this season sets a national record, with no other team matching their consistency in front of goal.
Racing Santander have become the only team in Segunda División to score in every single league match this season, setting a remarkable national record that no other Spanish side has achieved since the division expanded to 22 teams.
Record-breaking form
José Alberto’s men not only reclaimed top spot with a statement victory over Las Palmas, but they hammered home four goals against a side that had previously been watertight at the back. Before facing Racing, the Canary Islanders hadn’t conceded more than one goal in any match this season.
The Cantabrians have now scored in all 22 league fixtures played so far, surpassing the previous benchmark set by Real Betis under Pepe Mel in the 2010-11 season, when they found the net in their opening 20 matches before eventually lifting the Segunda División title. Could this be an omen for Racing’s promotion hopes? You’d have to say it’s looking proper tasty.
Beyond the current campaign
The scoring streak actually extends beyond this season’s exploits:
- 24 consecutive league matches when including the final two fixtures of last season
- This would stretch to 26 if counting playoff matches against Mirandés
- Racing’s last league blank came against Almería back on May 18, 2023
Barcelona connection
Interestingly, the only competition where Racing have failed to score this season was in their Copa del Rey defeat to Barcelona. The Catalan giants are coincidentally the only other Spanish team maintaining a perfect scoring record in their league campaign.
In their earlier Copa ties, Racing were in fine fettle, netting:
- Four goals against SD Logroñés
- Two against Ponferradina
- Two more against La Liga side Villarreal
Individual brilliance
This goalscoring bonanza has naturally translated to individual success. Racing boast two players among the top four scorers in LaLiga Hypermotion:
- Andrés Martín with 11 goals
- Asier Villalibre with 10 goals
The club also recently lost Jeremy Arévalo (8 goals) after Stuttgart triggered his release clause this month – a bit of a kick in the Hampstead Heath for Racing’s attacking options, but they’re still finding the onion bag with remarkable regularity.
