Arbeloa shrugs off transfer talk: 'We've got a brilliant academy if needed'
Real Madrid's interim boss backs his current squad ahead of tricky Villarreal clash, praising Bellingham's character and confirming Rodrygo's return to the matchday squad.
Madrid’s new gaffer remains fully focused on the job at hand rather than potential January reinforcements, insisting he’s got all the talent he needs already at the club.
No winter shopping spree
Álvaro Arbeloa has made it crystal clear he’s not desperate for the club to splash the cash this January, despite the injury challenges facing Los Blancos. When quizzed about potential winter market activity ahead of Saturday’s tricky away trip to Villarreal, the interim boss doubled down on his faith in the current setup.
“I have an extraordinary squad that I’m very happy with,” Arbeloa stated. “If we ever need anything, we have a brilliant academy.”
This vote of confidence in Madrid’s youth system comes as no surprise from a man who himself rose through the club’s ranks before his playing career took him to Liverpool and back.
Bellingham brilliance
Arbeloa was particularly effusive about Jude Bellingham, who continues to be a standout performer despite Madrid’s occasional wobbles this season:
“In matches with me, even in training sessions, he’s demonstrated his capability, technique, leadership and character. Against Monaco, the effort he made was tremendous. He has a winning mentality and brings together everything a Madrid player needs.”
Rodrygo returns
There’s good news on the injury front as Brazilian forward Rodrygo has been included in the squad for the Villarreal clash. His return provides a timely boost for a Madrid side looking to build momentum after their impressive Champions League showing against Monaco.
Ceramic challenge
Arbeloa isn’t taking Villarreal lightly, acknowledging the difficulty of Saturday’s fixture at the Estadio de la Cerámica:
“Villarreal is a great opponent that will demand our highest level. We’re aware of the great performance we need tomorrow to take all three points. It’s one of the most complicated away fixtures in La Liga.”
The gaffer appears to be finding his feet after a somewhat rocky start to his interim tenure, with signs that the Monaco victory could represent a turning point. The pressure’s on to deliver another strong showing at one of Spain’s toughest away grounds.
