Burgos land Chilean midfield general Galdames on free transfer

Pablo Galdames joins Burgos CF from Independiente until 2027, bringing international experience to bolster the Segunda División side's midfield options.

Burgos CF have kicked off their January business with a proper bit of savvy recruitment, snapping up experienced Chilean international Pablo Galdames on a free transfer after he terminated his contract with Argentine side Independiente.

Chilean enforcer signs long-term deal

The 29-year-old midfielder has put pen to paper on a contract running until June 2027, becoming the first winter reinforcement for the Black and Whites. Galdames arrives at El Plantío with a mandate to inject some much-needed energy and experience into the engine room of Ramis’ squad.

Burgos have pulled off something of a coup here, landing a player with serious pedigree who should be right at home in Spain’s second tier. The Chilean brings a wealth of international experience to the table, having plied his trade across multiple top divisions.

Impressive CV across multiple leagues

Galdames’ recent numbers make for decent reading:

  • 33 appearances for Independiente last season
  • 4 goals and 2 assists from midfield
  • Experience in Italy’s Serie A with both Genoa and Cremonese
  • Stints in the top flights of Chile and Brazil

Known for his box-to-box capabilities and ability to arrive late in the penalty area, Galdames offers Burgos a different dimension in midfield. He’s not just a water carrier - the lad can find the onion bag when needed.

International pedigree

On the international stage, Galdames is no novice either. He made his debut for Chile at just 20 years of age and featured in the 2021 Copa América, representing La Roja at the highest level of South American football.

This signing suggests Burgos mean business as they look to strengthen their position in the Segunda División. Word on the grapevine is that more transfers could be on the cards before the window slams shut at the end of the month.

The Chilean’s arrival is just the opening chapter of what could be a busy period of movement at El Plantío. I’ll be keeping my mince pies on this one - Burgos might not be done shopping yet.
