Granada snap up Diocou on loan from Tenerife after Faye departure
The Andalusian club moves quickly to replace their departed star, securing Senegalese winger Baba Diocou with an option to buy as they look to bolster their attack.
Granada have moved swiftly to fill the void left by Faye’s departure to Sporting Portugal, securing the services of promising Senegalese attacker Baba Diocou on loan until the end of the season.
Loan deal with future option
The Andalusian outfit have successfully negotiated with Tenerife to bring Diocou in from Arenas de Getxo, where the young winger had been plying his trade during the first half of the season. The loan agreement includes an option to buy for just under €3 million – a figure that currently appears beyond Granada’s financial reach.
Diocou arrives at Los Cármenes following a similar path to his compatriot Faye, making the step up to professional football after impressing in the Primera RFEF. His numbers at that level have been proper tasty, with five goals and five assists already this campaign – exactly the kind of attacking output Granada are desperately crying out for.
What Diocou brings to the table
Pacheta, Granada’s gaffer, has made no bones about needing to replace the qualities lost with Faye’s departure. Diocou ticks those boxes with:
- Blistering pace
- Vertical running
- Excellent dribbling ability
- Direct attacking threat
The main challenge for the Senegalese will be adapting quickly to the demands of Segunda División and making an immediate impact for the rojiblancos.
Following a successful formula
Granada are hoping to repeat their successful formula with Diocou, following the same blueprint that worked so well with players like Lama, Faye and Alemañ – all of whom made seamless transitions between divisions and delivered outstanding performances.
This represents another calculated gamble on a player from the lower tiers, but one the club believes could pay significant dividends as they look to boost their attacking options for the remainder of the campaign.
