Luis García shakes off Santander setback as Las Palmas prepare for Córdoba test
Las Palmas boss Luis García puts Racing defeat behind him, welcomes selection headaches up front, and prepares for a tricky home clash against in-form Córdoba.
Las Palmas manager Luis García has quickly moved on from Sunday’s disappointing defeat at Racing Santander, claiming the setback has given his squad renewed focus ahead of this weekend’s clash with Córdoba.
Learning from defeat
Rather than dwelling on the loss, García has taken a philosophical approach, suggesting the defeat might even have some silver linings for his promotion-chasing side.
“The defeats give me a lot of energy and it’s helped us keep our feet on the ground,” García explained at his pre-match press conference. The gaffer seems determined to use the disappointment as fuel rather than letting it knock his team off course.
He’s treating the loss as a necessary bump in the road rather than a major crisis. After all, every team faces obstacles during a long season, and Las Palmas remain well-positioned in their Segunda División campaign.
Córdoba challenge
Looking ahead to the weekend’s fixture, García isn’t taking anything for granted against a Córdoba side with impressive away form. The Andalusian outfit hasn’t tasted defeat on their travels since mid-September - that’s proper consistency, innit?
“Córdoba really like end-to-end games,” García noted, anticipating a complex tactical battle at the Estadio Gran Canaria.
Selection headaches
The Las Palmas boss will have several key players available again, with Marvin, Kirian and Sandro all returning to the fold - though he admitted captain Kirian isn’t quite match-fit yet.
García also spoke enthusiastically about new signing Miyashiro:
- “He’s a phenomenon”
- “Adapts quickly”
- “Eager to contribute as soon as possible”
Attacking options
Perhaps García’s biggest dilemma comes in attack, where recent signings have created fierce competition for starting spots. It’s the sort of problem every manager dreams of - as they say in the East End, it’s all bread and honey when you’ve got quality options.
“What a wonderful problem to have! This will raise the level of competition and the team,” García enthused.
Rather than focusing solely on the battle between Jesé and Iker Bravo, García highlighted the depth at his disposal, mentioning Miyashiro, Lukovic and Sandro as further attacking threats.
With this embarrassment of riches up top and a determination to bounce back from defeat, Las Palmas look well-equipped to get their promotion push back on track against Córdoba.
