Sevilla move to secure wonderkid Nico Guillén with massive release clause

The Andalusian club have acted swiftly to tie down their midfield gem until 2029, fending off interest from Real Madrid with a €20m release clause.

Sevilla FC are pulling out all the stops to secure their brightest academy talent after losing youngster Alexis Ciria to the bright lights of Madrid.

Locking down the crown jewels

After watching one of their prospects head off to the Bernabéu, Sevilla aren’t taking any chances with Nico Guillén, widely regarded as the real dog’s dinner in their academy setup. The Andalusian club are set to announce a contract extension until 2029 for the talented midfielder in the coming days.

The new deal isn’t just your standard paperwork either - it comes with:

  • A significant salary bump for the youngster
  • A hefty €20 million release clause to ward off potential suitors
  • A clear pathway to the first team

Real Madrid had reportedly shown interest in the lad, but Sevilla have moved quickly to secure his future at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

The Utrera Road gem

Guillén has been with Sevilla since 2013, joining as a nipper and progressing through their famed youth system at the training complex on Utrera Road. His development has been nothing short of stellar, earning him call-ups to Spain’s U16, U17 and U18 national teams.

Currently a regular for Sevilla Atlético (the B team), the left-footed midfielder’s contract was already running until 2027, but the club’s brass clearly felt the need to strengthen their position and show their commitment to the player.

First-team prospects

Matías Almeyda already gave Guillén a taste of senior football during pre-season, where he marked his debut with a goal against Birmingham. The youngster has impressive ball-carrying ability and a sweet left peg, having notched two goals in 15 appearances for the B team this season.

The Guardian recently included him in their list of the world’s 60 best young talents, even drawing comparisons to the legendary Fernando Redondo. Proper praise that, innit?

Academy revival

With finances tight around Nervión, Sevilla are once again leaning on their academy to produce first-team talent. José Ángel Carmona, Juanlu Sánchez, Kike Salas and Isaac Romero have already established themselves in the senior squad, while Oso and Miguel Sierra are the latest youngsters making waves.

The club reportedly plans to secure new contracts for this pair in the coming weeks as well, doubling down on their commitment to homegrown talent.
