The timing of the announcement couldn’t be more symbolic. The club chose to reveal the contract extension during their post-match dressing room celebrations, with Puga proudly holding up a shirt displaying his name and the 2029 end date.
It’s been quite the journey for the Granada-born defender, who arrived at Málaga during the 2023/24 winter transfer window from Atlético Madrid’s reserve team. He joined at a crucial moment with the club pushing hard for promotion, and immediately made his mark with solid defensive performances and attacking thrust down the right flank.

Puga’s development at Málaga has been nothing short of impressive:
- In 2024/25, he established himself as a regular, making 31 league appearances plus a Copa del Rey outing, racking up 2,245 minutes

- This season (2025/26), he’s become an undisputed starter, with his pace and competitive spirit making him one of the team’s most reliable performers
