Ciss kicks off with 'what a s*** club' retweet as Rayo's dressing room drama escalates

Pathé Ciss shared a fan's scathing criticism after Rayo Vallecano failed to honor his AFCON triumph, adding to growing tensions at the Madrid club.

Rayo Vallecano’s dressing room is turning into a proper powder keg, with Pathé Ciss’s social media antics the latest spark in an increasingly tense situation at the Madrid club.

AFCON winner left fuming

Ciss, who recently returned to Spain as an African Cup of Nations champion with Senegal, was clearly miffed when Rayo failed to give him the traditional hero’s welcome typically afforded to players returning with international silverware.

The 31-year-old midfielder didn’t keep his feelings under wraps, either. He retweeted a supporter’s scathing criticism of the club that ended with the less-than-subtle phrase “what a s*** club” after Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Osasuna—a match where Ciss actually scored Rayo’s only goal.

Club forced to explain

The social media drama quickly escalated to the point where Rayo felt compelled to release an official statement on Sunday explaining their decision. According to the club, they considered it inappropriate to celebrate anything during a matchday observed as a period of mourning, with players wearing black armbands and holding a minute’s silence for victims of two recent tragic railway accidents in Adamuz and Gelida.

Rayo confirmed they’ll properly honor their AFCON champion before their next home fixture against Real Oviedo on February 7th.

Perfect storm brewing

This dust-up couldn’t have come at a worse time for Los Franjirrojos. The club was already dealing with:

  • Players complaining about the poor state of the Vallecas pitch
  • A disappointing home defeat to Osasuna (1-3)
  • Growing tensions in the dressing room

With the atmosphere at Vallecas already turning a bit Pete Tong, this latest controversy adds another headache for a club trying to maintain stability in La Liga. The timing of Ciss’s social media activity—immediately after scoring in a defeat—only adds to the awkward situation.
