En-Nesyri's Sevilla homecoming? The dream might be dead in the water
After Juventus talks collapse, the Moroccan striker reportedly fancies a return to Nervión, but financial hurdles make a January reunion highly unlikely
Former Sevilla hero Youssef En-Nesyri is reportedly pining for a return to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, but the finances might make this reunion nothing more than wishful thinking.
Juventus deal collapses
The Moroccan striker, currently at Fenerbahçe, was seemingly on the verge of joining Juventus on loan, but the Italian giants have now pulled the plug on the deal. Juve’s sporting director Giorgio Chiellini didn’t mince his words, confirming they’ve terminated negotiations due to En-Nesyri’s hesitation about the loan structure.
With his Turkish adventure not exactly going to plan, it seems En-Nesyri has cast a nostalgic eye back to Andalusia, where he enjoyed four successful seasons between 2020 and 2024.
Financial obstacles galore
Sevilla’s bean counters would need to perform some proper magic to make this happen:
- The club would need to create significant salary space
- La Liga’s financial controls are notoriously strict with these types of operations
- Fenerbahçe would need to cover most of the loan costs
Remember when Sofyan Amrabat nearly joined Sevilla last summer? That deal fell through and the Moroccan ended up at city rivals Betis instead. Similar financial gymnastics would be required here.
Despite the long odds, some sources suggest Sevilla are pushing hard and have asked En-Nesyri to wait until deadline day before making any decisions.
Plan B: Maupay on the radar
While the En-Nesyri dream might be a bit of a ‘pie in the sky’, Sevilla sporting director Víctor Cordón isn’t sitting on his hands. Neal Maupay of Marseille has emerged as a serious alternative, with the French club currently in negotiations with Sevilla, Paris FC, and Lille about the Franco-Argentine forward’s future.
Maupay fits the profile Sevilla are after, but again, creating salary space remains the critical challenge with the transfer window’s slam shut rapidly approaching.
