Fer López touches down in Vigo for medical ahead of loan return

Former Celta academy product Fer López has arrived back in Vigo to complete his loan move from Premier League strugglers Wolves after limited playing time in England.

Former Celta academy product returns to his old stomping ground just six months after departing for the Premier League, with the midfielder set for a medical on Monday ahead of a loan deal until the end of the season.

Homecoming after Premier struggles

Fer López touched down at Santiago airport on Sunday, bringing to an end negotiations that have stretched over a month. The talented midfielder has endured a difficult time in England since his summer move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, managing just 364 minutes across all competitions for the Premier League’s bottom club.

Wolves currently find themselves propping up the table with a measly 8 points, leaving López seeking more regular playing time back in familiar surroundings.

Priority target secured

López had been identified as an absolute priority for both the club and manager Claudio Giráldez during this January transfer window. Celta have already cleared space in their squad registration by moving on Damián and Fran Beltrán, paving the way for López’s return.

Versatility key to signing

Giráldez spoke about the impending arrival on Saturday, highlighting the player’s versatility as a major asset:

“Fer gives me peace of mind because he’s an easy adaptation,” the Celta boss explained.

The gaffer is clearly chuffed with the signing, viewing López as a proper Swiss Army knife of a player who can operate as a defensive midfielder, attacking midfielder, or winger. His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively makes him the perfect January addition for a Celta side looking to climb the table.
