Bordalás finds positives despite Getafe's last-gasp heartbreak at Montilivi

José Bordalás remains upbeat about Getafe's direction despite conceding a 94th minute equaliser against an in-form Girona side, as the Azulones turn focus to Celta.

Getafe gaffer José Bordalás was left gutted but not broken after his side conceded a 94th minute equaliser at Montilivi, robbing them of what would’ve been a massive three points against an in-form Girona side.

Late drama denies Azulones

The Getafe boss was philosophical about the late sucker punch, acknowledging the pain but focusing on the positives from his team’s performance.

“It hurts, especially given how it happened in the final moments,” Bordalás admitted post-match, quickly adding that “this is the way” forward for his struggling side.

The result is particularly painful given the context of Getafe’s season, with the Madrid outfit currently battling near the wrong end of the table. The late equaliser was a proper kick in the Hampstead Heath for a team desperate for points.

Performance over points

Despite the disappointment, Bordalás was keen to highlight the quality of Getafe’s display against a Girona side that has been in impressive nick in 2026:

  • Praised his players’ work ethic and competitive spirit
  • Highlighted how they neutralised an in-form opponent
  • Noted Boselli’s chance to win it even after conceding

“Above all, the team tried,” Bordalás explained, acknowledging they faced “a difficult opponent” who has been collecting strong results recently.

Looking ahead to Celta

The gaffer didn’t dwell on the disappointment, quickly shifting focus to their upcoming home fixture against Celta Vigo at the Coliseum.

“We need to clear our minds, think about the next home game and keep improving,” he stated, emphasising the tight margins in La Liga this season.

Transfer talk

Bordalás also touched on Getafe’s January business, confirming the club remains active in the market while acknowledging financial constraints.

He expressed satisfaction with the four new arrivals so far, praising their attitude despite lacking LaLiga rhythm. The boss was particularly pleased with Luis, who scored Getafe’s goal against Girona.

With the Celta match looming on Sunday, Getafe will need to dust themselves off quickly and channel this performance into a much-needed victory.
