Getafe haunted by late goals yet again as Vitor Reis snatches point for Girona

Bordalás' men suffer late heartbreak for the third consecutive match as Girona equalise in the 94th minute, continuing Getafe's frustrating pattern of conceding in the dying moments.

Getafe were seconds away from a precious three points at Montilivi when Vitor Reis struck in the 94th minute to leave the visitors absolutely gutted once again.

Third time unlucky

It’s becoming a proper nightmare for José Bordalás and his Getafe side, who’ve now dropped points in the dying moments for the third consecutive match. Talk about déjà vu!

The pattern is becoming painfully familiar for the Azulones:

  • vs Girona: Vitor Reis equaliser in the 94th minute
  • vs Real Sociedad: Juanmi levelled in the 90th minute before Aranburu twisted the knife with a 96th minute winner
  • vs Valencia: José Gayá struck in the 84th minute to deny Getafe at the Coliseum

Bordalás must be tearing his barnet out at this point. That’s five potential points gone begging in the final moments of matches - the difference between mid-table comfort and their current relegation dogfight.

Climbing out of trouble

Despite the disappointment, there is a silver lining for Getafe. The point earned at Montilivi was enough to lift them out of the relegation zone, at least temporarily.

Attention now turns to Sunday’s absolutely crucial home clash against Celta Vigo at the Coliseum. It’s the definition of a six-pointer as Getafe desperately need to start turning these draws into wins.

Transfer talk

Sporting director Toni Muñoz has hinted that Getafe might not be done in the January transfer window just yet, suggesting they’re still looking to strengthen before the deadline.

“Until February 2nd, anything is possible. We have to juggle things to try to bring someone in,” Muñoz explained, though he added that he hopes the four new signings already made will boost the squad.

With their tendency to concede late, perhaps another defensive reinforcement wouldn’t go amiss. As they say in the East End, they need players with a bit more bottle and less of the Barnet Fair when the pressure’s on.
