New boys Guido Rodríguez and Unai Núñez hit the training pitch at Valencia
Argentine midfielder and Spanish defender complete first training session under Carlos Corberán as Valencia prepare for potential baptism of fire against Betis
Valencia’s newest recruits Guido Rodríguez and Unai Núñez have completed their first training session with the squad at Paterna training ground, as Carlos Corberán’s men prepare for Sunday’s clash against Real Betis.
Ready for action
Both players have arrived in top physical condition and, barring any setbacks during the week, will be included in the squad traveling to Seville on Saturday ahead of the 16:15 kick-off on Sunday.
The timing couldn’t be more poetic for Rodríguez, who could make his Valencia debut against his former employers Betis, where he spent four and a half seasons before his brief Premier League adventure.
Rodríguez’s London escape
The 31-year-old Argentine midfielder put pen to paper on Monday after terminating his contract with West Ham United, where he’d been warming the bench more often than not. The Hammers gave him just eight Premier League appearances this season, with only three starts to his name.
After some proper argy-bargy with the London club, Valencia finally secured his services on Friday. West Ham confirmed the departure in a statement mentioning “a transfer for an undisclosed fee” - keeping the bread and honey details private, as per usual.
Rodríguez touched down in Valencia on Sunday, breezed through his medical on Monday morning, and signed a contract binding him to Los Che until June 2026.
Núñez strengthens the backline
Spanish defender Unai Núñez joined the fold on Friday as reinforcement for the heart of defence. Valencia announced his arrival before the Espanyol match, and there was even talk of him making the squad for that game if his international clearance had arrived in time.
Paperwork pending
As of Monday afternoon, neither player has been officially registered with La Liga, though this administrative formality should be completed well before the weekend’s fixture.
Both signings represent significant reinforcements for Corberán’s squad as they look to climb the table in the second half of the season.
