Sergio Ramos Makes Major Move in Sevilla FC Takeover Bid
Former Sevilla and Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has signed a Letter of Intent with Sevilla shareholders, beginning an exclusive negotiation period for club ownership.
Former Spain captain Sergio Ramos is stepping up his ambitious plans to buy Sevilla FC, with significant progress made in recent negotiations.
Letter of Intent Signed
Ramos has officially signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with several major Sevilla shareholders who have representation on the club’s board of directors. This crucial step initiates an exclusive negotiation period during which Ramos and his partners will conduct the all-important due diligence process - examining the club’s financial position in detail.
Serious Financial Backing
The 37-year-old defender isn’t on his Jack Jones in this venture. He’s partnered with Argentine businessman Martín Ink, CEO of Five Eleven Capital, an American-backed football holding company. The financial muscle behind the operation comes from IDC Ventures, a US-based investment fund with Guatemalan roots, who would act as the capital partner.
What’s particularly interesting is that Antonio Cordón, Sevilla’s current director of professional football, has previously had working ties to Five Eleven Capital.
Not Just Talk
Ramos has proven his proposal is no pie in the sky dream. This initial agreement positions him as the leading candidate to purchase the club, especially after two other interested groups dropped out following their own financial reviews.
On January 15th, the former Sevilla player travelled to the city with his brother René and his lawyer/economist Julio Senn. They met with shareholders and lawyer Alberto Pérez Solano, who serves as secretary of the board and is one of the visible heads in the sale process.
The Numbers
The initial proposal reportedly valued the club at around 450 million euros. While early meetings were positive, Ramos has had to wait his turn as shareholders were previously negotiating with another American investment group that ultimately cooled their interest.
Full Circle Moment?
If successful, this would represent a remarkable homecoming for Ramos, who began his career at Sevilla before his high-profile move to Real Madrid. The defender, who had two separate playing stints at the Andalusian club, could now return in a dramatically different capacity - as owner.
