Valencia hunt for right-back as transfer window enters final stretch

After securing three key signings, Los Che are looking to reinforce the right-back position following Thierry's injury, with Foulquier the only available option.

Valencia CF are desperately seeking to add a right-back to their ranks before the January transfer window slams shut, following a busy month that has already seen them strengthen their spine with three crucial signings.

Spine strengthened, but gaps remain

The relegation-threatened club have already moved to bolster their squad with the additions of Sadiq, Unai and Guido - reinforcing the central defence, defensive midfield and attack respectively. These signings form what the club hopes will be a solid new backbone to help them avoid the drop to the Segunda División.

However, manager Rubén Corberán believes more is needed, and the club are actively working to bring in additional reinforcements before time runs out.

Right-back crisis

Valencia’s recruitment team have been making calls about several right-back options, with the position becoming a serious weak spot following Thierry Correia’s injury. Currently, Dimitri Foulquier stands as the only available right-back, and despite signing a two-year extension last summer, his performances this season have been inconsistent at best.

Both the sporting directors and Corberán himself have been reaching out to potential targets, viewing the position as crucial for improving performances for the remainder of the season.

Copa considerations adding pressure

The timing is particularly critical as Valencia face Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals next week. Progression in the cup would add extra fixtures to their calendar, making squad depth even more important as they battle on two fronts.

While the club has made enquiries and taken the decision to strengthen the position, they haven’t yet submitted any formal offers. It’s a proper game of two halves at the moment - Corberán is pushing hard for reinforcements, and the club appears willing to back him with one more addition.

Outgoings proving difficult

On the departures front, things aren’t going quite as smoothly. Players who’ve been deemed surplus to requirements, such as Baptiste and Raba, have no intention of leaving, having only recently joined the club. Meanwhile, Almeida has been made available, but no offers have materialised for the player.

With just days left in the window, it’s going to be a right old dog and bone to see if Valencia can sort this one out in time.
